Greetings!

Wow, it's been a bit since I last posted. Let's see, what has happened...

Not much :) I go to school, stay up too late, work, and do my massage homework.

I have to take one of my tests again. Bleh. What is so hard about major muscles? I had no problem with minor muscles. It's annoying.

So sorry, life is busy, just not very interesting. I regret the boring nature of this post. Perhaps I will start inventing a more interesting personae...

Return of 'Customer of the Day'

Apr. 2nd, 2007 | 12:08 pm

Greetings!

Sarah's "Customer of the Day" is back. Today's story will renew your hope for the future generation.

I work in the Kid's department, and as I walked in today, I saw a most disheartening sight. Board books...everywhere on the floor. So I groaned, then laughed, then began the slow and annoying process of reshelving.

Just then, a ten-year-or-so girl came around the corner.

"Wow." she said.

I turned and grinned. "Yep, that was pretty much my reaction as well."

"Do you want some help?"

When was the last time a kid asked you if you needed help completing a chore? A candy bar, yes, but a chore?

"Sure, if your offering."

So for the next five or ten minutes we chatted while we put away books. And by the way, her offer was not an empty one, she shelved nearly as much as I did. Sweet kid.

It was nice to end my day on such a positive note. Especially since we had a sale today and everything was crazy.

They lied!

Mar. 31st, 2007 | 03:44 am

Greetings,

I certainly admire my instructors at school, but they lied! My exam was not 13 pages, it was in fact 14 pages! Eeek!

I honestly don't know if I managed an 80%, which is the minimum to pass. I will hopefully find out next week. Why does a massage therapist need to know about muscles anyway?

My practical went well though. I am happy to report that I received either 'very good' or 'excellent' on my technical evaluation. My instructor was very thorough and even stayed a little later in order to give me some pointers.

So that's that. I now have two weeks off and plan to be exceedingly lazy if I can. Wait, scratch that, I still have minor muscles to study. Drat.

annoying words in my head

Mar. 25th, 2007 | 01:50 pm

Muscles, muscles, muscles. Origin, Insertion, Actions. This is the mantra going through my head at the moment. The test is on Monday. All thirteen pages of it. Granted, not as long as my 36 page rental contract, but still, imposing.

I saw Pan's Labyrinth with Ryan and Jackie tonight. I enjoyed it, and the company. Good movie for anyone thinking of seeing it. Not for kiddies though. Nightmare city for those under 10.

On to the next week!

dreams of rip van winkle

Mar. 21st, 2007 | 02:48 pm

Okay, so a little tired right now, earlier I was cranky, so I guess tired is an improvement. Toady in class we all learned about muscles. Fun times. And in an effort to help us learn muscles, their origins, insertions, and actions, the teachers gave us markers and had us draw on models where the muscles were.

I was one of the models.

So now I have green, orange, blue, red, and black lines running down my legs. Including a section on my calf that was supposed to be the soleus muscle but ended up looking like a plaid band-aid.

Anyway, that was my night. Bed time.

Greetings!

So I received a message saying I had not posted in two weeks, and that I should be a good friend and post something. Sorry!

I am starting to feel the burn. School is picking up momentum, we are now learning an insane amount of muscles, fondly referred to as 'muscle mountain'. I moved last week, and we still don't have our internet up, so this will be a short posting, as I am writing this from the library's computer on my lunch.

I went back to Oregon a few few days back. That was fun, and I got to see my best friends new springer spaniel puppy, sophie. Very cute, and all paws.

Life is busy! But good. Hopefully I will be able to get my room in order sometime this millennium. Now that we have an apartment, I can cook more now. Happiness!

Well, that's it for now. Sorry to those who thought I had died or something. I get to preoccupied with what I'm doing that I need a reminder now and then so I don't drop off the face of the planet. Thanks Ryan!:)

Greetings!

Wow, I really need to upload a picture for myself don't I? So many things to do!

So, I made it through my first quiz today. All 123 questions of it. It defied my definition of a quiz, but hey, it certainly did it's job. I never want to hear of Hyaluronic Acid again. I probably will, but it's how I feel at the moment.

I'm busy. Not really stressed (at the moment), but busy. I schedule free time now. I have not had to do that yet in my life. Hmmnn.

Wish I had something more interesting to report, such as a drunk teen-aged driver minus insurance crashing through the front lawn, taking out the flower bed and the neighbors fence (actually happened, but a few months ago), but all I can say for now is that I have a lot to do. Probably a good thing though, since 'interesting' can cover anything from winning the lottery to being abducted. I'll stick with my life for now.

Well, that's it folks. Time for bed.

things you wish were just a joke

Jan. 29th, 2007 | 01:08 am

Massage school, very busy, etc. etc.

On to the "Customer of the Day", kind of like the lunch special of the day but without the food poisoning.

There are times in customer service that you wish the customer was just joking with you. Because if their serious, you start to have doubts about the survival of the species.

As many out there know, I work in a used book store. Like all business we attract the smart, the not so smart, and those in between. Today at the buy counter I encountered the 'not so smart'. Nice enough guy but...well, I'll just tell the story and let you decide.

I was at the buy counter, finishing up with another customer when this particular gentleman approached me with a simple question.

"Where do you put the books in your store?" he asked. "On the shelves?"

I waited a moment. There are many times where I have taken a joke seriously, and I thought perhaps this was one of those times. No. Such. Luck.

So I answered the question.

"Yes sir, on the shelves."

"Oh."

Now at this point, the polite thing to do would have been to stay silent and let the matter drop. Or perhaps comment on the weather.

"They go on the shelves, in random locations about the store." Was what I said instead.

"Oh."

He signed his receipt and left. I told the story to Matt. I told the story to Jamie and Anna. And I told Justin, who commented that what we should do is instead of putting our books on the shelves, to bury them in various locations about the mall flower beds. When someone comes in wanting a book, all we have to do is hand them a shovel and point out the tree lined parking lot. Seemed like a fun idea.

Anyway, that is my 'Customer of the Day', and now I'm off to bed.

Goodnight.

the days go by...

Jan. 20th, 2007 | 11:20 pm

Wow, the 21st already? Good grief.

School is fun, but I can already tell, I'm going to be a very tired person by the end of it. Still, what other school requires it's students to receive a free massage every week?

I finally broke in my massage table today after class. Misa from school came over and we logged in one hour of homework each. Today, and today only I can say I am ahead on my homework! Wonder how long that will last.

It's late. I'm sleepy. Bed.

the first day!!

Jan. 17th, 2007 | 12:59 pm

In case anyone is casually wondering out there, 'when did Sarah start her massage school I wonder?', well, the answer is last night. The first day was like many first days and included: name memorization(not a strong suit for me, but I tried), paperwork, signing important stuff, going over the syllabus, and so on.

So, a little boring at times, and I was a bit tired from working since 6:30 am(the class ran until 10:30 pm), but all in all, I think it is going to be a good course. I made two new friends, one of whom is an anime fan and recognized the character on my bag. She seems a little shy, but I think we're going to get along just fine.

So that was my day. Fascinating, I know. But I am sure things will get a lot more interesting!

rant of the day

Jan. 13th, 2007 | 10:45 am
mood: hungry

Greetings.

Does anyone out there ever just sit in a mall and nonchalantly observe the people walking past? Where are they headed? What's in the bag? And for heaven's sake, why are they skipping?

There is a very sweet old couple in the mall where I work that get their exercise by making the rounds every morning. The woman has what looks like osteoporosis and hip problems, and can only shuffle a few inches at a time, but her husband sticks with her the whole way, patiently holding her arm and hand, himself bent over in the effort to ease her steps. If you want a picture of love, that's it.

I like older folks. For the most part anyway. I'm not overly fond of the old coots who have regressed to elementary school, and think that mean spirited teasing is a viable form of flirting, and therefore still puts them 'in the game'. Oh well, I guess everyone has to pass the time somehow.

Anyway, that is my rant for the day.
